After a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the provincial capitol grounds was once again filled with lively and jovial vibes as the traditional Singkaban Festival was celebrated on Thursday.

Governor Daniel Fernando, in his message, thanked God Almighty as the Bulakenyos celebrated the event dubbed the “mother of all the fiestas”.

He invited all Bulakenyos as well as local and international tourists to come and witness the weeklong celebration of the festival that will center on the rich arts and culture of the province’s 21 towns and three cities.

“Ngunit bukod dito, atin ring ipagbubunyi ang matatag na kaugalian ng ating lahi na maging sa pandemya ay hindi nagpagapi (Aside from this, let us celebrate the strong character of our race that even the pandemic cannot defeat),” the governor said.

Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, who would have been the special guest, was represented by DOT Assistant Secretary Ferdinand “Kokoy” Jumapao.

Jumapao thanked Bulakenyos for inviting him to witness and join the opening of the grand celebration of the province’s rich culture and history.

The opening celebration was highlighted by a float parade that showcased the localities’ products, traditions, arts and tourist destinations.

Meanwhile, the “Bulacan Festival Costume Expo” was opened, with ensembles depicting Bulakenyo heroes, patriots, national artists, and personalities put on display at the Robinsons Place Malolos until Sept. 15.

The Hiyas ng Bulacan Brass Band will serenade visitors and spectators at the “Konsierto ng Hiyas ng Bulacan” at the Bulacan Capitol Mini Forest.

Likewise, participants of the “Singkaban ng Bayan: Arc Making Competition” will display their entries in front of their respective municipal or city government halls or building from Sept. 8-15. (PNA)
