Mayor Honey Lacuna on Wednesday called on village officials in the city to boost their information dissemination efforts on fire prevention amid the consecutive fires that occurred in the city.

During the distribution of aid to fire victims in Tondo district, Lacuna said residents should be properly informed on the causes of fire and how they can prevent these from happening.

Some 203 families were left homeless by the series of fires in the district. The families each got PHP10,000 while seven unattached individuals got PHP3,000.

While noting the small financial aid, Lacuna said this is the city government’s way of helping them start again.

From June 13 to 24, seven fires occurred in the city, Lacuna said.

The latest fire happened on June 23 which gutted a residential area on Rivera St. in the city’s Barangay 234.

The number includes five incidents in Tondo and one each in the city’s second and fourth districts.

The amount of assistance distributed to the fire victims topped PHP2 million. (PNA)
