Byron Lane spent some time in his life as a personal assistant for Carrie Fisher. However, this book is not a retelling of his time working for her but influenced and inspired by that time of his life. The main character Charlie Besson works for a major celebrity star called Kathi Kannon. As Charlie accompanies Kathi on several trips and errands their work relationship turns into a close friendship.

2. Want to cry
Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan

This book is considered a classic by many. It explores the lives and past of four daughters, their mothers, and their families. These four Chinese women are immigrants that now live in America and meet every week to play mahjong. They share stories of what they left behind in China and their hopes for their daughter’s future. It is then that we learn the tragedy behind each character, that brings tears to the reader’s eyes.

3. Feeling lost
The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach To Living A Good Life by Mark Manson

This self-help book can help the reader reevaluate and reexamine their way of thinking and how they live life. Just like any self-help book, it is not a one-size-fits-all, some love the book some do not. Mark Manson acknowledges that by forcing yourself to be positive, you’re just highlighting how you aren’t positive. He tackles many more ways of thinking and enlightens readers, with his unorthodox way of living.

4. Feeling adventurous
Smaller and Smaller Circles by F.H Batacan

F.H Batacan won the Carlos Palanca Grand Prize for an English Novel in 1999 for Smaller and Smaller Circles. The story is set in the Philippines, a body is found in Payatas and two priests are asked by the National Bureau Investigation to help solve the case. Father Gus Saenz is a respected forensic anthropologist whilst his friend, Father Jerome Lucero is a psychologist. The book was later turned into a movie by TBA Studios, and can now be viewed on YouTube.

5. Want to feel empowered and inspired

When searching for inspiration, biographies are usually the way to go. Michelle Obama an accomplished and beloved woman shares tales of events in her life that shaped her. From living in Chicago, becoming a wife, mother, and the first lady, she is the representation and exemplification of a strong woman.
