The local government unit of Naval in Biliran province launched on Monday its online consultation program providing free services to residents in the comfort of their homes as a way to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Launched in Higatangan Island where two villages are located, the e-Konsulta program is being led by the town’s rural health unit.

“I think this will become a game changer in providing basic health services to the people not only in our town but in the entire Biliran province,” Mayor Gerard Espina said during the launching.

He added that with the program, island residents do not have to take an hour boat ride to seek medical consultation.

Residents benefiting from the online consultation will get free medicines at the pharmacy on the island earlier opened by the local government.

At least 10 residents on the island were provided health services during the launch.

The local government implemented the program as a way to decongest hospitals and health centers and limit face-to-face interactions between patients and doctors, especially in this pandemic.

Espina added that after the launch in the island villages, residents in other communities can avail of the online consultation by schedule.
