The Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO5) has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety and security of the public amid the adverse weather conditions caused by Typhoon Egay (Doksuri).

Lt. Col. Malu Calubaquib, in a phone interview, said the Reactionary Standby Support Force (RSSF) and Search and Rescue (SAR) teams have been activated in response to the weather forecast provided by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) as of 5 a.m. on Monday.

“Given the potential risks posed by the typhoon, residents in low-lying areas are advised to evacuate to safer locations as needed. PRO5 is committed to providing assistance and support before, during, and after the calamity,” she said.

She said police provincial offices and city police offices were also directed to closely monitor the situation within their respective areas of responsibility.

“The units shall also establish disaster response teams and conduct a thorough inventory of the available resources to ensure preparedness and efficient response in case of any emergency,” she said.

Meanwhile, the provincial government of Catanduanes suspended work in government offices and classes in public schools at all levels in the province early Monday due to the bad weather.

Catanduanes Governor Joseph Cua, however, said the memorandum he issued does not include workers who are involved in the provision of necessities or delivery of basic services and disaster response.

PAGASA estimated the position of Typhoon Egay’s center at approximately 565 kilometers km east of Baler town in Aurora province.

The typhoon is moving steadily westward at a speed of 15 km/h.

Tropical cyclone wind signals were raised for several areas in the Bicol region, including the provinces of Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, the rest of Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate. (PNA)
