Some 300 delegates are set to flock to the Ilocandia Cultural Center in Batac City this week to attend a summit aimed at showcasing local talents and promoting cultural ingenuity.

Spearheaded by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the summit, dubbed “Parnuay: The 3rd Creativity in Philippine Higher Education Summit,” will be held from Tuesday to Thursday.

The summit adopts a word from the host region’s language. For this year, the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), which is one of the organizers, picked “parnuay,” an Ilocano word that means creating, inventing, or bringing something into existence.

“This year’s creativity summit will highlight cultural and creative enterprises that contribute to economic growth and cultural identity,” MMSU said in a statement on Monday.

The three-day event will feature a national rondalla-inspired celebration through “Ritmo ti Namnama: Himig ng Bagong Pilipinas,” which is a musical performance to further promote Philippine music, culture, and arts among the youth.

The event will also feature two women national living treasures from Ilocos Norte: Magdalena Gamayo, a master weaver from Pinili, and Adelita Bagcal, a dallot (traditional Ilocano improvised chant) queen from Banna.

There will also be plenary sessions and workshops to raise awareness about creative industries, with invited resource speakers from the academe, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Integrated Performing Arts Guild and the Creative Content Creators Association of the Philippines, among others.
