The city government here is equipping its 14,500 households with emergency go bags as part of its intensified disaster preparedness campaign.

Mayor Mark Christian Chua confirmed this in a media interview on Tuesday, reporting that the distribution of go bags to its 43 barangays began this week.

“This movement of the city government is just a start of empowering our communities, an awareness campaign to be ready ahead of disaster,” Chua said.

Each go bag contains essential supplies, including a medical kit, power bank, flashlight, raincoat, emergency blanket, glow lights, disaster preparedness manual and a waterproof bag.

According to Chua, the distribution is part of the city government’s broader implementation of a disaster resilience program. He assured that the city government is equipped with proper equipment and that government responders were well-trained in quick response.

During the handover activity to the different barangays, the city disaster risk reduction and management office encouraged residents to keep the bags in accessible locations.

The city government plans to provide every household with an emergency go bag packed with essential survival gear, along with the distribution of weather boards and other equipment needed in times of emergency. (PNA)
