Fifty indigent families in Barangay Katil, Datu Paglas, Maguindanao del Sur, officially received housing units from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) through its “Kapayapaan sa Pamayanan” (KAPYANAN) program on May 18.

One beneficiary, identified only as “Babo,” described the experience as a dream fulfilled after finally receiving a home of her own.

During the turnover ceremony, BARMM Assistant Senior Minister and KAPYANAN project manager Abdullah M. Cusain said the housing units come with solar-powered lights, water systems, solar street lights, and concrete-lined canals. He emphasized that the homes were designed to withstand strong winds and typhoons.

KAPYANAN Project Development Officer Fatima Mohammad-Malang introduced a handbook and operations manual to guide beneficiaries on proper maintenance and emergency preparedness.

Cusain also credited former BARMM chief minister Murad Ebrahim and current Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua for supporting housing projects across the Bangsamoro region.

Since the program began in 2020, nearly 3,000 housing units have reportedly been delivered across the mainland and island provinces of BARMM.

Datu Paglas Mayor Datu Ibrahim P. Paglas IV thanked the BARMM government for selecting the municipality as a project site.

KAPYANAN legal officer Norjanna T. Lacoto encouraged beneficiaries to care for their new homes as “a new beginning” for their families. (PNA)
