The city government here is engaging citizens, organizations, and business establishments to adopt-a-tree at the Bacolod Public Plaza to be lit up during the Christmas holidays starting Dec. 10.

As of Tuesday, almost 70 groups have volunteered to join the program.

In Executive Order 63, series of 2024, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said the initiative aims to bring the community together in the true spirit of giving by donating Christmas lights to adorn the trees at the Bacolod Public Plaza.

“As the Yuletide season approaches, let us celebrate the joy of togetherness while lighting up the hearts of everyone who visits our beloved plaza,” he said.

He added the program is “more than just decorating trees; it’s about fostering a sense of community and volunteerism.”

In a statement, the Bacolod City Tourism Office thanked the sponsors and donors “who have already contributed to the meaningful cause.”

“Each light and ornament donated adds to the festive atmosphere, spreading cheer to families, friends, and visitors alike,” it added.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway at the Bacolod City Government Center grounds for this year’s Christmas Festival of Lights on Dec. 7, themed “Christmas for Kids.”

The event, organized by the city government in partnership with STI-West Negros University, will feature a Parade of Lights and Colors, taking off from STI-WNU campus along Burgos St. and culminating at the Bacolod City Government Center. (PNA)
