In preparation for the takeover of the new administration, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, who is eyeing the congressional post here in the May 12 polls, formed the local governance transition team (LGTT) on Friday.

“The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) encourages local government units (LGUs) to establish a LGTT at least two months before the end of the term of the current administration,” the mayor said in a directive.

He said it will serve as “a preemptive measure to guarantee sufficient time and preparation for the transition process.”

Benitez, whose first term will end on June 30, said the transition body, which he will chair, will ensure a smooth, transparent, and well-coordinated transition of power and responsibilities.

The vice chair will be elected by a simple majority from among the members, comprising all department heads, a DILG representative, City Council secretary, and at least one representative from an accredited civil society organization or people’s organization.

According to the mayor’s directive, the LGTT shall be “responsible for ensuring and facilitating a seamless transition to newly-elected officials by safeguarding LGU records and assets, managing key processes and handover, and maintaining continuity in governance.”

It is tasked to conduct inventory of LGU properties, preserve official LGU records and documents, and turn over accountabilities.

The LGTT is also responsible for the preparation and submission of the final transition report outlining all activities undertaken, gaps and challenges, and recommended actions for future transitions and ensure adherence to policies set forth by the DILG. (PNA)
