The Army’s 32nd Infantry Battalion (32IB) distributed 5,000 assorted school supplies to Etub-Etub Elementary School in Sumisip, Basilan, during a Wednesday outreach program, demonstrating its resolute commitment to education, child welfare and community development.

In a statement, Lt. Col. Gerwin Maghuyop, 32IB commander, said the outreach activity benefited more than 350 learners from Kindergarten to Grade 6 at Etub-Etub Elementary School, including Madrasah (Islamic) school students.

“The donated school supplies include notebooks, ballpens, and pencils, providing students with essential learning materials as they continue their education,” Maghuyop said.

In addition, Maghuyop said they also conducted a feeding program for the 350 learners, promoting proper nutrition and supporting the overall health and well-being of the children.

“Supporting the education, nutrition, and well-being of our children is an investment in the future. Through initiatives like this, we hope to inspire young learners to pursue their dreams and become partners in building peaceful and progressive communities,” he said.

Maghuyop said the outreach program also sought to ease the burden on parents by providing school supplies and encouraging students to stay motivated and focused on their studies.

On Monday, the 32IB also held a cleanup drive in Barangay Upper Cabengbeng, Sumisip, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote environmental protection, public health, and stronger civil-military relations.

Maghuyop said the cleanup drive was conducted in partnership with the village officials and residents, highlighting the strong cooperation between the Philippine Army and the local community in advancing programs that benefit the public and preserve the environment.

The 32IB consistently undertakes community-based initiatives that promote volunteerism, environmental responsibility, and close collaboration with local government units and residents. (PNA)
