The Antique provincial government has released a total of PHP3 million as financial assistance to 691 elderlies, indigents, and 12 households as part of the People’s Day celebration here.

The two-day distribution which ended on Tuesday was held at the Provincial Engineering Office (PEO) compound in San Jose de Buenavista.

Antique Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) Supervising Administrative Officer Noemi Tagle, said the 12 households that were relocated last year for occupying a lot owned by the Odiong Elementary School in Barangay Odiong, Sibalom each received a PHP10,000 financial aid.

Last year, the same relocated families were also given PHP10,000 per household by the provincial government to assist them with their transfer to the site located just nearby their barangay.

“We have to hold a two-day releasing of financial assistance because of the numerous beneficiaries we have,” Tagle said.

The 691 beneficiaries, with 150 seniors aged 85 to 95 received assistance in the form of cash for their milk and other subsistence needs.

The provincial government has a program that assists the elderly, 85 years old and above, with no income to help them meet their needs. The aid varies depending on their age range.

“The people were very happy and appreciative to be able to receive their assistance from the provincial government,” Tagle added.

Meanwhile, 541 other indigents requested financial assistance from the PSWDO for medical and burial assistance of family members. (PNA)
