The Antique provincial government has allocated PHP15 million as allowances for athletes as they prepare for the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) 2026 Meet.

In an interview on Friday, Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Antique sports officer Oliver Servillion said the fund covers the allowances of 577 athletes, as well as their trainers and coaches.

“The athletes will already start their school-based training on Jan. 26 for the WVRAA that will be hosted by Passi City in Iloilo,” Servillon said.

The athletes will compete in 25 events such as swimming, taekwondo, dance sports, and boxing from March 16-21.

They will receive a daily allowance of PHP600 per day to be released after their 36-day training.

Trainers will receive the same amount, while the coaches, who are the teachers of the athletes, will receive PHP360 per day as an incidental allowance.

Servillon said the Antique provincial government also has a PHP19 million budget for the meals, uniforms, and other needs of the athletes during the actual regional sports event.

“The Offices of Senator Loren Legarda and Rep. Antonio Agapito Legarda will also have a sports camp with the Philippine Sports Commission that will be sending national trainers for the athletes,” he said. (PNA)
