Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar on Friday expressed hope that all the countries hit by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic would recover this year.

Andanar issued the statement, as he wished everyone a “prosperous, safe, and healthy” Chinese Lunar New Year.

“May 2021 be the year for our collective recovery from the virus and the effects it has had on our lives, as we continue to undertake measures to ensure our commitment in this regard,” he said in a press statement.

Andanar acknowledged that last year, everyone around the globe was challenged “in many ways” due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“However, we have all strived to endure these challenges together,” he said.

Chinese New Year falls on Feb. 12 and is declared a special non-working day through Proclamation 986.

According to the Chinese Zodiac, 2021 is the Year of the Metal Ox.

Metal ox is characterized as being healthy and fit, Chinese Zodiac experts have said.

Andanar was confident that health protocols would be observed during the celebration of Chinese New Year.

“As we celebrate this occasion, let’s be reminded of the health protocols and minimum health standards to minimize the transmission of the virus,” he said. “Happy Lunar New Year, Xīnnián kuàilè to everyone!” (PNA)
