Award-winning journalist Christian Esguerra headlines the new no-nonsense talk show “After the Fact” on ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel starting Monday (May 24).

Every weeknight at 8 pm right after “TV Patrol,” Christian will dissect and explain the most important issues of the day and will hold people in power to account through straightforward interviews, just like in “Matters of Fact,” which aired its final episode on May 21.

“If viewers liked and followed ‘Matters of Fact,’ expect the new program to be more comprehensive, incisive, and critical—of course, fair,” said the 2020 Marshall McLuhan fellow and recipient of the 2019 award of distinction from the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility.

With more than 20 years of experience in journalism, both as a practitioner and an educator, Christian believes journalists should continue asking the tough questions even with threats to media freedom becoming more common nowadays.

“Asking tough questions allows the public, through journalists, to determine if those they elected into office are doing their jobs and doing them properly. We cannot assume that people in power only have the best interest of the public in mind, especially given our political culture that’s prone to abuse and sycophancy, and institutions that are only getting weaker,” he said.

In going after the fact, Christian said a journalist cannot be throwing “softball and inane” questions.

Christian was already a veteran journalist in 2016 when he was introduced as one of the hosts of the daytime program “Mornings @ ANC.” He was also part of the show that replaced it, “Early Edition,” where he continued to build his reputation as a fearless interviewer in pursuit of the truth. He also covered important national events and anchored news coverages for ABS-CBN News, and produced explainers on relevant issues for the ABS-CBN News digital project “NXT.”

“After the Fact” adds to the credible and relevant news programs of ANC, which marked its 25th year of being in the service of the Filipino last May 1. Aside from “After the Fact,” Christian also hosts a podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube called “Facts First,” where he discusses political issues with experts and policymakers.

Catch “After the Fact” from Monday to Friday at 8 pm on cable on ANC, online on the ABS-CBN News YouTube channel and iWantTFC, or listen to the podcast version on Spotify.
