A new town hall and a legislative building worth PHP210 million will soon rise in Sto. Domingo, Albay and are expected to enhance public access and easy workflow for efficient delivery of government services.
The project is being realized with the support of the Ako Bicol Party List (AKB) while costs in construction are sourced from the Local Government Support Fund under the General Appropriations Act.
During a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday afternoon, AKB Rep. and House Committee of Appropriation Chair Elizaldy Co said the initial fund for the construction of the town hall and legislative building was directly released to the local government unit (LGU) of Sto. Domingo to expedite the construction.
“To all municipal employees and the public, finally, we are now groundbreaking this project. An initial funding of PHP75 million to start the project (was released) and another release as second tranche of PHP135 million (will be downloaded) for the completion of the project,” Co said.
He said the project that will be constructed on a 3,540-square-meter lot owned by the LGU is expected to give the municipal employees the confidence and motivation to work harder in providing services to the public.
The buildings will replace the old Sto. Domingo town hall that was damaged by a fire incident on Nov. 13, 2022.
Co said the project is part of the infrastructure development plan for the Bicol Region by the Marcos administration.
The lawmaker further said more infrastructure projects will soon be implemented in the town, such as coastal roads that will promote tourism and create more livelihood opportunities for the people in the first district of Albay.
Sto. Domingo Mayor Joseling Aguas Jr. thanked the AKB for the projects. (PNA)
