The Aboitiz Foundation has turned over 13 air-conditioned tents at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) to serve as a holding facility for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) patients and address congestion.

The tents, which can accommodate 52 persons, were turned over on Monday.

During the ceremony, Mayor Sara Z. Duterte, in her message read by Dr. Ashley Lopez, of the Department of Health (DOH)-Davao City focal person on Covid-19, thanked the company for their support in the city’s battle against Covid-19.

“On behalf of the City Government of Davao, I would like to convey my heartfelt gratitude to the Aboitiz Foundation for your support and benevolence for Dabawenyos, in the form of these tents and air conditioners which will be used in the holding area of the Southern Philippines Medical Center,” the mayor said.

” This will help improve our services to patients who are not yet called to the isolation facilities by providing a secure environment where they can rest comfortably as they wait,” she added.

Mr. Jason Magnaye, Aboitiz Power Corporation (APC) Assistant Vice President for External Relations, noted that APC has always been looking for ways to support the efforts of the local and national government.

“We are committed to helping the region and the city moving forward to find ways to really manage the pandemic,” he said.

Apart from that, Duterte also said in a previous radio interview that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is setting up 10 container vans to serve as an isolation facility at SPMC.

“We will have these holding areas fixed because we want patients who are not yet called on the isolation to rest comfortably,” she said. (PNA)
