The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) opened another satellite office in the Negros Island Region (NIR) as part of its initiatives to boost access to social protection services across the region.
Secretary Rex Gatchalian, with Mayor Paul Alvarez and 6th District Rep. Mercedes Alvarez, led the inauguration of the fourth social welfare and development (SWAD) facility in Ilog, Negros Occidental, on Wednesday.
“Services closer to the people of Negros Occidental,” Gatchalian said in a Facebook post, as he also thanked the two officials for facilitating the establishment of the satellite office in the southern Negros town.
In a statement, the DSWD-NIR said the latest SWAD satellite office strengthens the agency’s presence in communities and makes its programs and services more accessible to clients, as they don’t need to travel far to seek assistance.
On Sept. 4, the DSWD-NIR’s third SWAD satellite office opened in Sagay City, serving communities in northern Negros Occidental.
The two others are in Isabela, Negros Occidental and Bayawan City, Negros Occidental.
“More SWAD satellite offices will be opened in other areas of the region, bringing services even closer to the people and reinforcing a client-centered approach to social protection,” the DSWD-NIR said. (PNA)
