The city government released PHP1.7 million in chalk allowance to 700 teachers here, under the Bangsamoro Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) School Division of Lamitan, on Tuesday afternoon, demonstrating its continued commitment to strengthening the education sector in the city.

Mayor Roderick Furigay spearheaded the distribution of the 2026 chalk allowance during a simple program at the city’s gymnasium.

Each teacher received PHP2,500, representing the first half of the city’s annual PHP5,000 chalk allowance.

“The financial assistance aims to help educators meet classroom expenses and further support their vital role in shaping the future of Lamitan’s learners,” Furigay said in an interview.

On behalf of the teachers, MBHTE Lamitan Schools Division Officer-in-Charge Noel Notario expressed heartfelt gratitude to the city government for its firm support for the education sector.

Notario noted that the city government allocates about PHP17 million annually to support the city schools division.

The funding includes a chalk allowance, support for the Bangsamoro Regional Athletic Association, school repairs, and programs to improve the quality of education.

Furigay emphasized that the strong partnership between the local government and the education sector has greatly contributed to the ongoing implementation of programs that benefit both teachers and students.

“The initiative underscores the city government’s commitment to investing in education by ensuring teachers receive the support they need while creating a better learning environment for every Bangsamoro learner in the city,” he said.

Meanwhile, in addition to the chalk allowance, the city government also distributed five kilos of rice to every teacher as part of its continuing assistance and appreciation for the dedication and hard work of educators in the city. (PNA)
