A total of 1,400 family-beneficiaries from Calasiao, Pangasinan, have begun receiving a 10-kilogram (kg) rice subsidy from the national government through the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF).

The beneficiaries are employees who are minimum-wage earners.

“This is not just once. This is in six tranches until we complete the 60-kilo-per-family allocation,” Mayor Patrick Caramat said in an interview Friday.

“I am very thankful that there are programs like this that our countrymen can benefit from.”

The rice distribution began on Thursday.

Families in need will receive 10 kg of rice every two months, six times a year, through the LGSF to help ensure food security for vulnerable sectors.

The LGSF and the Socio-Civic Projects Fund (SCPF) are key components of the government’s efforts to strengthen support for local government units (LGUs) and communities.

The LGSF provides financial aid to LGUs to support their priority development programs and projects, while the SCPF supports community initiatives, including educational support. (PNA)
