Thirty college graduates whose families were assisted by the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will be deployed as tutors for young learners in Kabankalan City for the summer.

Under the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program, in partnership with the Department of Education, they will guide learners from Grades 1 to 3 in public elementary schools near their places of residence, from May 11 – 29.

John Aldrin Mana-ay, project development officer and city link of DSWD-Negros Island Region, on Tuesday said the tutors are fresh graduates, mostly with Education degrees.

“They were selected from the pool of graduates in the past two years, especially those who are Education majors,” he said.

The tutors will provide guidance and support to the learners in strengthening their reading and foundational skills to help them build confidence and prepare for the upcoming school year.

Each tutor will receive an honorarium of PHP5,000 from the city government.

The Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program is the reformatted educational assistance of the DSWD, which innovates financial support to families and youth while empowering young people to take an active role in nation-building.

Launched in August 2023 and expanded in 2024, it empowers college students or graduates by training and assigning them as tutors to assist disadvantaged or struggling readers in public elementary schools. (PNA)
