Training slots allocated for repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from the Middle East are transferable to their families, the head of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) announced on Friday.

TESDA has allocated 8,000 scholarship slots for OFWs who would want to avail of the government’s repatriation program.

“The slots are in the form of a voucher/certificate, and they could transfer these to their families,” TESDA Secretary Jose Francisco Benitez said in a press conference.

He called on the OFWs to avail of the training courses from TESDA, adding that only about 2,000 certificates have been distributed so far as of Friday.

“They could choose from a variety of courses. We will also guide them if in case they want to establish their own business after undergoing the training,” Benitez said.

OFWs or their families only need to show the certificate to TESDA offices or TESDA accredited schools.

They can avail of the training courses in various sectors such as information technology, caregiving, hospitality, construction, among others.

This reintegration services seek to fast-track intervention for the OFWs, which include skills training, assessment and certification. (PNA)
