Dinagat Islands’ provincial government has secured PHP100 million from the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) to complete the Dinagat Islands Sports Complex.

Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. told the Philippine News Agency on Wednesday that construction has already begun at the site in Barangay Wilson, San Jose town. Land preparation is currently underway, with facility construction set to proceed once funds are transferred.

Demerey and PSC chair Patrick Gregorio finalized the funding during a meeting on Tuesday.

“The funding from the PSC will cover the first phase of the construction of the sports complex, which will include a 400-meter rubberized track oval consisting of eight lanes and a central field for multi-sports activities,” Demerey said.

Plans for the facility include spectator stands, lighting, drainage systems, and community amenities such as jogging lanes and fitness stations.

Demerey expressed optimism that the rubberized track and multi-sport field will provide young local athletes a proper venue to train and compete.

He added the complex will host organized programs to help identify promising athletes for regional and national representations.

Residents are thankful to the PSC for the landmark facility, he said, which symbolizes progress and investment in the province’s youth.

Demerey also recognized Dick Victor Carmona, secretary general of the Philippine Councilors League in Caraga, for providing technical support during the presentation of the province’s sports program. (PNA)
