Ilocos Norte distributed more than PHP95 million in assistance to farmers, entrepreneurs, and community workers Monday as part of its 208th founding anniversary.

Gov. Cecilia Araneta Marcos, in a speech at the celebration, pledged the provincial government’s commitment to creating opportunities and ensuring progress reaches all communities.

The Provincial Agriculture Office gave 277 units of farm and fishing equipment, including hand tractors and motorized boats, to 759 farmers and fisherfolk. The PHP2.95 million aid came from the province’s share of tobacco excise tax.

Small business owners received PHP700,000 in livelihood assistance.

“This is a big help to us to sustain our day-to-day operation,” said beneficiary Rodalyn Macalma, a food stall owner in San Nicolas.

Other aid included PHP3.37 million for tricycle operators and drivers, and a Toyota pick-up vehicle from the Office of the Presidential Assistant for Northern Luzon to bolster provincial disaster response. (PNA)
