The Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday highlighted gains for learning recovery as Khan Academy Philippines reached more than 2,700 public schools from an initial 30.

Khan Academy, one of DepEd’s partners, has been providing a free digital learning platform for learners and free training for public school teachers since its launch in December 2024.

The partnership has reached over 711,000 learner-beneficiaries and 12,153 teachers nationwide.

“When we began working with Khan Academy Philippines, it was present in only a few dozen schools. Today, it supports thousands of schools nationwide, providing free tools and free training for teachers, without additional cost to the government,” DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara said in a news release.

Angara said the free software not only eases the workload in schools, but also provides an easier approach to learning recovery.

For teachers, the platform allows them to quickly identify gaps among learners using the real-time data on progress, resulting in timely adjustment of instruction without having the need for additional administrative work or resources.

“Tayo ‘yung unang recipient sa buong mundo. Libre nilang binigay sa ating mga guro (We are the first recipient globally. They have freely given it to our teachers),” Angara said.

“So, I hope our teachers here, our principals here, will have the same zeal, the same excitement, the same determination to get these tools out to our learners in the field.”

For learners, the mastery-based learning system allows them to accomplish tasks at their own pace, covering remediation, enrichment and independent learning during or after regular class schedules. (PNA)
