Families that were preemptively evacuated in Antique due to Super Typhoon Uwan (Fung-wong) have returned to their respective homes after weather conditions improved on Monday.

Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDDRMO) chief Broderick Train said in an interview that local government units (LGUs) were urged to implement mandatory or forced evacuations in identified storm surge high-risk areas and other flood-prone areas on Sunday.

“There were 12 LGUs that implemented pre-emptive evacuations on Sunday among their residents along the coastal areas and other flood-prone areas,” Train said.

A total of 174 families or 477 persons from municipalities of Anini-y, Laua-an, Tobias Fornier, Barbaza, Tibiao, Belison, Pandan, Sebaste, Culasi, San Jose de Buenavista, Caluya, and Sibalom took temporary shelters in evacuation centers.

Work at the provincial government and national government agencies in Antique was also suspended on Monday upon the recommendation of the PDRMMC after its Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment on Nov. 9.

Train said the province is experiencing cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers, accompanied by light to moderate with at times strong winds and moderate to rough sea conditions only.

The PDRRM Council already issued a memorandum downgrading the alert status of its emergency operations center from red to blue.

Train said the province recorded no casualties due to Uwan. (PNA)
