Electricity has been restored in 430 of the 537 barangays that suffered from power failure at the height of Tropical Cyclone Tino.

Antique Electric Cooperative general manager Neal Peter Veñegas said in an interview on Thursday that their personnel had been trying their best to restore electricity after the onslaught of the typhoon.

“Many trees had fallen and affected our power distribution,” he said.

Currently, they are restoring power in remote areas and those affected by landslides, such as in the municipality of Bugasong.

They are closely coordinating with the Department of Public Works and Highways and the Antique District Engineering Office to determine if it is safe for their personnel to proceed to the affected areas.

“Hopefully, within today or so, we could already fully restore power in the barangays,” Veñegas said.

He also assured that they have enough posts and other materials to replace those damaged by the typhoon.

In San Jose de Buenavista, Anteco has replaced two electric posts that toppled after being hit by a fallen tree.

“As for Mararison island in Culasi, which is an off-grid area, we are temporarily using a generator set instead of solar energy because of the weather conditions,” Veñegas said.

Meanwhile, he added that their main office in San Jose de Buenavista is open to receive payments from consumers. (PNA)
