The Antique provincial government is distributing family food packs to affected families following the wrath of Typhoon Tino.

In an interview on Wednesday, Antique Gov. Paolo Everardo Javier said they started to distribute 350 food packs to families in the town of Valderrama Tuesday afternoon, followed by another 2,000 food packs to nine other municipalities severely affected by the typhoon.

“Today, we have three teams that distributed family food packs to the municipalities,” Javier said.

The three teams, composed of the Governor’s office, Antique Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office and other provincial government offices, as well as volunteer groups, distributed assistance in Anini-y, Hamtic, Tobias Fornier, Laua-an, Patnongon, Belison, San Remigio, Sibalom and San Jose de Buenavista.

“The Antique provincial government continues to repack family food packs at the New Antique capitol lobby so that other affected families from other towns could also receive assistance,” Javier said.

With 42,994 families or 97,924 individuals displaced by landslide and flooding due to the typhoon, Javier said he is requesting for augmentation support from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Regional Office 6 (Western Visayas).

“We are requesting DSWD for additional food packs, aside from the prepositioned goods already prepositioned in the province,” he said.

He said the DSWD has more than 17,000 family food packs prepositioned prior to Tino, which are now being distributed to affected towns in Western Visayas, including Antique.

Meanwhile, Social Welfare Officer 3 Rebecca Lotilla said the provincial government has allocated PHP4 million from the Quick Response Fund and Special Trust Fund for the food packs being distributed by the local government.

“The food packs prepared by the provincial government will be distributed in far-flung areas that could not be reached by the DSWD,” she said.

She said donated used clothes are also available to those needing it. (PNA)
