The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD-7) plans to deliver 225,000 Family Food Packs (FFPs) to earthquake victims in Cebu by the weekend as part of its second wave of relief distribution.

DSWD-7 information officer Leah Tagalo Quintana said during a press briefing Thursday that as of Wednesday, they had already distributed 28,250 FFPs in the second wave, which began a day before.

“We hope to complete the distribution by this coming weekend as instructed by Secretary Rex Gatchalian,” she said.

Immediately following the Sept. 30 magnitude 6.9 earthquake, DSWD-7 distributed 225,000 FFPs during the first wave, reaching close to 700,000 individuals in hard-hit areas, including Bantayan Island, Borbon, Medellin, and San Remigio.

Quintana noted that the DSWD-7 has set up a mobile communications center for seamless coordination of relief efforts. The agency is also consolidating the list of earthquake victims qualified to receive emergency cash assistance, with local governments assisting in the validation process.

A tent city has also been established in San Remigio to provide temporary shelter for internally displaced persons whose houses were destroyed by the earthquake. (PNA)
