The municipal government here will soon open its own dialysis center that will provide free hemodialysis services to residents.

Mayor Patrick Caramat during a press briefing on Wednesday said the new center will be the town’s first dialysis facility, housing 12 hemodialysis machines capable of treating three patients each day per machine.

“This is free for the residents of Calasiao,” he said.

Caramat, who also marked his first 100 days in office on Wednesday, cited plans to open the dialysis center in December. However, recent weather-related flooding has delayed the opening until early next year. ”

We conducted a case study and identified the number of patients from our town who go to neighboring towns for hemodialysis,” he said, adding that kidney failure is among the causes of death in the town, even among younger people.

Meanwhile, Caramat said healthcare is one of the local government’s top priorities, alongside education and agriculture, among others.

During his first 100 days as the local chief executive, he said the local government provided free dental dentures to 100 elderly and also planned a free cataract surgery for another 100 elderly.

He said this is in addition to the other health services provided by the municipal health office. (PNA)
