The local government here has launched the Infant, Toddler Early Education (ITED) program to support the development of social and motor skills and boost the nutritional status of children three years old and below in Iloilo City.

Through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), ITED will implement the initiatives “EDU-LIIT” (Edukasyon para sa Bulilit) and “LUSOG-LIIT” (MaLUsog na Bulilit) in eight child development centers in Barangays Sta. Filomena, Rizal Pala Pala 2, Quintin Salas, Nabitasan, Libertad, and PHHC Blk. 22, as well as in South Fundidor and the Bahay Bulilit in Jaro 1.

Launched on Sept. 12, the program will benefit about 200 children.

In an interview on Friday, Mayor Raisa Treñas said it is important for children below three years old to develop social skills.

“This is important because, since parents are working, sometimes they only leave them with tablets, with cellphones. They have no social skills. Here, we can help with the social interaction of children, guide their development, and feed them,” she said.

While inside the center, they can interact, play, and have activities facilitated by child development or day-care workers.

“The motor skills of children below three years old should also be practiced. Because the late development of motor skills could sometimes affect their brain development,” she added.

Children will also be provided with hot meals prepared using locally sourced and indigenous food supplies.

Centers will have a session every Friday with a maximum of five children per session.

The ITED program is one of the indicators for the Child Friendly Local Governance Audit and aligns with the RISE TO ACTION Roadmap of the city government. (PNA)
