The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Friday encouraged the public to support local entrepreneurs from 18 local government units (LGUs) in Albay that are currently showcasing their products at a trade fair.

In a phone interview on Friday, DTI-Albay Director Noel Bunao said 23 local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are taking part in the four-day fair which runs until Sunday.

“The event features various booths displaying quality products, ranging from colorful handicrafts to traditional Albay food. The trade fair aims to highlight the talents and skills of local entrepreneurs and small to medium enterprises in Albay,” he said of the fair, which is now on its fourth edition.

“Among the participating MSMEs, 13 are from the food sector, including food processors, while 10 are involved in home decor and wearable products,” Bunao added.

The 23 MSMEs received assistance from the Negosyo (Business) Center, enabling them to showcase their products on a global platform, with a goal of reaching wider markets, including Metro Manila.

Bunao said first-day sales reached PHP160,000, making their prospects of hitting the PHP500,000 total sales target look attainable.

Featured products include pili nuts, peanut butter, juice/suka (vinegar) and a local delicacy known as nandi.

Bunao emphasized that the fair also serves as a culmination of various training programs, compliance with regulatory requirements, and ongoing efforts to improve and enhance business quality.

“We are targeting institutional buyers for long-term engagements and participants are gaining valuable experience in negotiation skills,” Bunao said.
