Misamis Occidental Governor Henry Oaminal Sr. announced plans Thursday to achieve the national government’s target of PHP20-per-kilogram rice prices following his reelection victory.

Oaminal said he will consult rice traders about implementing the price reduction while protecting their interests.

He said the province has already mobilized its agricultural team to purchase local harvests for distribution.

“We’re optimistic about reaching the PHP20/kg target by next month, if not sooner,” Oaminal said in an online interview. “Our priority is ensuring local rice sufficiency by keeping harvests in local markets.”

The provincial government recently acquired a PHP31-million rice processing system through the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization to support farmers. (PNA)
