Antiqueños working or temporarily residing in Negros Island Region but displaced by the Mt. Kanlaon unrest should coordinate with their respective municipal disaster risk reduction and management offices (MDRRMOs) in Antique province for possible assistance from the provincial government.
Antique Provincial DRRM Officer Broderick Train, whose team is currently in the NIR to augment the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), said Antiqueños should coordinate with their MDRRMOs so they could be located and provided with assistance.
“La Castellana and La Carlota are within the Kanlaon volcano eruption-affected areas, and these are where Antiqueño sugar migrants are working,” Train said in an interview.
He added that while at NIR, he has been trying to secure information for possible displaced Antiqueños.
“Once we get information about the displaced Antiqueños, we will recommend to Governor Rhoroda Cadiao their needed assistance,” he said.
The team from Antique PDRRMO will stay in NIR until the end of April to help OCD-NIR manage its operation center and conduct onsite monitoring.
“The Municipal DRRMO personnel of San Jose de Buenavista and Caluya were sent earlier to assist upon the request of OCD-NIR Regional Director Donato Sermeno III,” he said. (PNA)
