President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday called on newly-promoted senior officials of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to lead by example and carry out their duty with pride and integrity.

Speaking at the oath-taking of the 39 newly-promoted star rank officers of the police force in Malacañang, Marcos underscored the significant responsibilities the officers now bear.

“It is, thus, incumbent upon you to lead by example,” Marcos told the police officers.

He reminded the PNP officials that they now have “to guide, to discipline, and to inspire” the men and women under their command.

“Ensure that all PNP personnel are fulfilling their duties with integrity, with competence and [trustworthiness], considering that our police force plays a very significant role to maintain peace and order, protect communities and to respond in times of calamities,” he said.

The President also highlighted the expectations the public has of the police force, one that is “reliable, responsive and resolutely committed to protecting the lives of every Filipino.”

“Filipinos expect to live in a safe, fair and just environment where peace and order are observed while upholding the rights and dignity of all citizens,” he said.

Marcos then challenged the officers to rise to the challenges ahead and live up to those expectations.

“We must meet them with every ounce of our strength. We must not falter. We must deliver,” Marcos said.

“The road ahead will not be easy, but this, I know, you wear your badges not just on your chest, but in your convictions,” he said. “There is no greater, more honorable calling than to serve and to protect the country.” (PNA)
