The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) signed a memorandum of agreement with the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) on March 14 to strengthen policy and regulatory frameworks and promote fair competition in the housing sector.

The MOA establishes a framework for streamlined coordination, mutual support, and shared expertise between the two agencies, reinforcing the government’s commitment to a more competitive and well-regulated housing sector.

DHSUD Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar highlighted how crucial the collaboration is to strengthen the current administration’s housing initiatives further.

“This partnership with the Philippine Competition Commission marks a significant milestone in our efforts to create a housing landscape that is inclusive, transparent and competitive. It will help ensure that our housing policies and regulations are responsive to the needs of the public,” he said as quoted in a news release on Sunday.

“Bahagi din po ito ng whole-of-government approach na isinusulong ng mahal na Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. upang resolbahin ang ating housing need (This is also part of the whole-of-government approach being promoted by our beloved President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to resolve our housing needs),” he added.

By reinforcing inter-agency collaboration, the said agreement facilitates the efficient exchange of information, technical assistance, and joint solutions to address competition-related challenges in the housing industry.

This initiative is expected to drive market efficiency, enhance consumer welfare, and ensure equitable access to affordable, housing solutions.

Acuzar also emphasized that the MOA will facilitate capacity-building programs, equipping DHSUD personnel with expertise to navigate competition-related concerns in housing development.

“Through this agreement, we will further strengthen our institutional competencies and uphold policies that promote a dynamic and equitable but well-regulated housing industry,” he added.

The collaboration also reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to fostering fair competition and implementing policy reforms which drive sustainable urban development.

Acuzar led the signing ceremony along with PCC Chairperson Michael Aguinaldo and other key officials from both agencies. (PNA)
