The Department of Public Works and Highways in Davao Region (DPWH-11) has assured the completion of two multi-million infrastructure projects in Davao del Norte by 2026 and 2027.

During a press briefing here on Thursday, DPWH-11 spokesperson Dean Ortiz said the PHP110-million northbound lane of the Tuganay Bridge project is expected to be completed by 2026, while the PHP500-million Tadeco Road rehabilitation project will be finished by 2027.

The Tadeco Road project involves the rehabilitation of the 8-kilometer Tagum-Panabo Circumferential Road, often referred to as a “killer road” due to its poor condition and occurrence of frequent accidents.

Ortiz reported that 1.73 kilometers of the road were completed in 2023, and an additional 0.628 kilometers were finished in 2024 at a cost of PHP57.6 million. For 2025, a 0.948-kilometer stretch worth PHP82.6 million is set for award, while a PHP490.6-million budget for the remaining 5.275 kilometers is still in the proposal stage.

“We are hopeful that the PHP490.6 million budget for Tadeco Road will be approved, so the project can be completed, addressing the concerns of motorists,” Ortiz said.

Davao del Norte 2nd District Rep. Alan Dujali highlighted the economic impact of the road’s poor condition, noting that truckers incur higher costs by diverting to longer routes. He urged truckers to use alternative roads in neighboring barangays and called for stricter regulation of heavy vehicles on Tadeco Road.

Panabo City Mayor Jose Relampagos said the city government has allocated funds for road maintenance and is working closely with DPWH to ensure the project’s success.

Meanwhile, the southbound lane of the Tuganay Bridge was opened to motorists in December 2023, with the northbound lane expected to be completed by 2026. (PNA)
