Nine police units in Western Visayas have received new patrol vehicles to enhance mobility and security during the upcoming May 12 midterm elections.

Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO6) director Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky led the turnover ceremony on Wednesday at the regional headquarters in Iloilo City.

Each recipient unit was given a Mitsubishi Triton 4×4 patrol vehicle to support law enforcement operations.

The recipients of patrol vehicles included the Aklan 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Command and municipal police stations (MPS) of Malay, New Washington, and Tangalan, all in Aklan; Libertad MPS in Antique; and Anilao, Dingle and San Enrique MPS in Iloilo.

Wanky said they were prioritized because they haven’t been issued with patrol cars for the longest time.

“These are intended especially for our mountainous areas. They are fitted for our trails,” he said in an interview.

He emphasized that the units will be vital during the election period for random checkpoints, security coverage of political rallies, and law enforcement.

San Enrique Mayor Rosario Mediatrex Fernandez expressed gratitude, noting that the vehicle will boost peace and order in their landlocked municipality, which faces occasional security challenges.

“Ever since we have been very supportive of our PNP. We have financial support monthly on top of their budget,” she said in a separate interview.

Police officers were urged to maintain the vehicles properly, ensuring they serve as a symbol of efficient and responsive law enforcement. (PNA)
