Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman on Wednesday stressed the importance of partnership and collaboration with all sectors to advance the open government agenda.

This, as Pangandaman met with members of the Makati Business Club (MBC) and the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), as well as other leaders and members of the business community on the sidelines of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Asia and the Pacific Regional Meeting 2025.

“By fostering dialogue between the government and the private sector on budget transparency, open governance, and policy reforms, you not only support our cause: you are our partners in our Agenda for Prosperity,” said Pangandaman, who also acts as chair of the Philippine OGP.

“Now, more than ever, we understand that true leadership is not defined by the position you hold but by your ability to empower people toward a shared goal of collaboration and good governance,” she added.

Organized by the MBC and CIPE, the meeting discussed the significance of the government’s budget process and priorities, procurement reforms, and open government initiatives in the private sector and the role they will play in advancing these initiatives.

Pangandaman said the government is open to collaborating with civil society to address any gaps in governance.

“Call us anytime, we can sit down. That’s really the main reason for Open Government Partnership. That’s why we’re here,” she said.

The OGP Asia and the Pacific Regional Meeting 2025 will run from Wednesday to Friday at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Taguig City.

Over 800 government officials, civil society leaders, and policymakers from over 40 countries are expected to participate.

The OGP is a global, multi-stakeholder initiative that includes 75 countries and 150 local governments, with an aim to make governments more transparent, accountable and responsive to citizens.

It promotes the collaboration between the government and civil society to improve public service, fight corruption, empower communities, and create real and lasting change.

The APRM will focus on advancing open government and addressing regional challenges through sharing of best practices and innovative solutions that enhance governance across the Asia-Pacific. (PNA)
