Commonly used by the current generation, especially in social media, the Oxford Dictionary has named “rizz” the word of the year.

In a generation where social media is on the rise, many phrases and words were on the rise during this age, expanding the capacity of an individual to express his or her feelings.

Acknowledging this innovation in the vocabulary of the current generation, the Oxford Dictionary has formally announced that the word “rizz,” which is commonly used by millennials, is the word of the year.

The word “rizz” is used by individuals when they describe a person as having that appeal or charisma through her physical appearance or personality. The said trending word particularly became trending on TikTok, wherein individuals show their “rizz” in getting the attention of their special someone or crush.

This has then been used on different platforms as it caters to a more pleasing word to many compared to saying “charismatic” or “appealing.”

Besides netizens who use such a word, other personalities such as Tom Holland have also delved into the rizz after saying it in an interview tackling his relationship with his girlfriend Zendaya.

“I have no rizz whatsoever. I have limited rizz,” Holland said.

The word “rizz” was among the shortlisted words that were evaluated by the language experts from the Oxford University Press depending on designated criteria, which were polled to the public in November to have the final list of words for the experts for selection.
