The city government here will distribute about 1,600 chicken inasal (grilled chicken) meals to various charitable institutions and non-government organizations as part of the activities of the Bacolod Chicken Inasal from May 26 to 28.

Councilor Celia Flor said Wednesday the identified beneficiaries would receive meals subsidized by the city government to be prepared by tenants of Manokan Country.

Among the recipients are the St. Vincent’s Home for the Aged, Bacolod Boys’ Home Foundation, Bacolod Girls’ Home Foundation, Social Development Center, and senior citizens’ associations.

“It will be given to them in advance. It will be delivered to them. It will be an economic enterprise for the tenants and for all the concessionaires,” Flor said.

On May 26, the festival will open at the North Capitol Road with a tasting and pairing event to introduce chicken “not only as a simple dish but a perfect pair for various brews.”

The second day will feature the Barangay Inasal Cook-Off at the Manokan Country and SM City Bacolod at 4 p.m., to be followed by a live cooking demonstration of celebrity chef Jose Sarasola at Ayala Malls Capitol Central at 5 p.m.

Simultaneously, the Chicken Inasal Awards will be held at the SM Atrium to recognize the choice inasal in various categories and honor the chicken inasal “pioneers and legends” in Bacolod.

The final day will be highlighted by the longest chicken-grilling event at the Megaworld’s The Upper East as part of the closing ceremony starting at 5 p.m.

During the three-day festivities, all the sites will host separate food festivals and nightly entertainment.

At SM City Bacolod, events will also include Bacolod’s Best Food Festival and Dessert Festival at the mall’s transport hub while at Ayala Malls Capitol Central, a Sugba Fest will be featured at the Fiesta Market.

Flor earlier said the chicken inasal is not an exclusive property of Bacolod but a cultural property, which Bacolod is known for.

“When you say tasty chicken inasal, Bacolod comes to mind, especially Manokan Country. One concept of the festival is to promote Manokan Country as an icon of Bacolod,” she added. (PNA)
