Local racquet sports enthusiasts together with Metro Manila players and foreign beach lovers will see action in the Beach Tennis Love Boracay tournament this weekend at the powdery white sands of Boracay Island in Aklan.

The event featuring men’s and women’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles categories will be played in front of the White House Beach Resort.

Nok Sacapaño, chairman of the organizing Boracay Racquet Sports Club PH, has prepared exciting prizes including cash rewards in the biggest and grandest sports competition on the island.

The Beach Tennis Love Boracay tournament is sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association (PHILTA) headed by Mayor Eric Olivarez.

Beach tennis, a popular racquet sport played worldwide, is a regular sports event at the Beach Games, which is the environmental activity of the International Olympic Committee.

With the support of the Philippine Olympic Committee, Filipino beach tennis players are hoping to qualify for the 3rd World Beach Games scheduled from Aug. 5-12 in Bali, Indonesia.

Other sports included in Bali 2023 are aquathlon, beach handball, beach soccer, beach volleyball 4×4, beach water polo, beach wrestling, individual Kata, open water swimming 5km, 3×3 basketball, air badminton, surfing, beach sprint rowing and wing foil racing.

Meanwhile, Boracay Racquet Sports Club PH secretary Theodore Dy said that more beach tennis activities are lined up on Boracay Island this year. (PNA)
