At least PHP1.4 million worth of payment were distributed to 282 recipients of the government’s 15-day cash-for-work program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Agusan del Sur province on Tuesday.

The payments, implemented under DSWD’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program, were for beneficiaries of La Paz and Veruela towns.

In a statement Wednesday, La Paz town Mayor Michael Lim said 114 residents in his town each received PHP5,250 for a total of PHP598,500 during the payout activity.

“The beneficiaries came from the different barangays of La Paz. Before the start of community services, the beneficiaries had undergone profiling conducted by the Public Employment Service of La Paz and at the provincial level,” Lim said.

He said another batch of 180 other town residents recently underwent orientation for the program and will also soon embark on a 15-day work schedule for the community.

In a separate payout Tuesday, some 168 beneficiaries from Veruela town also received their payments from the program.

A total of PHP882,000 worth of payments were released to the beneficiaries during the distribution activity led by Mayor Myrna Mondejar and other local and provincial officials.

The beneficiaries were displaced workers from the different villages of the town. (PNA)
