The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has welcomed United Kingdom (UK) Ambassador to the Philippines Laure Beaufils at the National Resource Operations Center (NROC) on Nov. 18 to inspect the center’s Mechanized Production System (MechPS).

The UK is one of the donors of the MechPS which has been instrumental and of great use in the efficient and fast production of Family Food Packs (FFPs) that the Department utilizes as augmentation assistance to local government units (LGUs) during disasters or calamities.

Through the assistance of the United Nations-World Food Programme (WFP), a similar MechPS from the UK was also set up in Cebu City and reinstalled in Mandaue, Cebu which caters to the Visayas Region and nearby areas in Mindanao.

This contribution of the UK had played an important role during the past disasters allowing government servicemen and volunteers to extend and deliver the much needed food packs in due time and with ease to the worse affected areas.

During the visit, Beaufils was joined by Undersecretary for Disaster Response Management Group Marco Bautista, Undersecretary for Social Welfare and Development Sally Navarro, Assistant Secretary for Luzon Affairs Marites Maristela, Assistant Secretary for Mindanao Affairs Arnel Garcia, and Assistant Secretary for Office of the Secretary Concerns Irene Dumlao.
