Job order (JO) and contract of service (COS) personnel of the Taguig City government will now be covered with social security benefits and loan privileges

This came as the city government and the Social Security System (SSS) signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on the Self-Employed Program for these personnel on Wednesday.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Taguig city government said it hopes to become a “model city” for other local government units in the National Capital Region for such a program that aims to expand SSS coverage to JO and COS personnel.

The pact would enable both SSS and the city to build a strong working relationship that will allow JO and COS employees to enjoy social protection against the hazards of disability, sickness, maternity, old age, death and even unemployment.

Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano met with SSS officials and the Taguig Human Resources and Management Office (HRMO) headed by Jeanette Clemente to discuss the program.

During the meeting, the HRMO immediately organized an orientation on the intended SSS program, as part of its one-week information education and communication campaign.

The orientation was attended by COS and JO city hall personnel who were briefed on SSS membership, benefits, and contributions.

They were given the opportunity to enroll in the SSS program as self-employed individuals with the city facilitating the deduction and remittance of premium contributions.

“As important members of the City of Taguig, your welfare is our utmost priority. Through our partnership with SSS, we want to ensure that you will have the benefits and protection that you need,” Cayetano said.

After the one-week information campaign, all 1,589 attendees registered for the Self-Employed Program.

Taguig City has yielded the biggest collection of SSS contributions for two consecutive years nationwide. (PNA)
