The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday received PHP4.9 million worth of various office and police equipment from the PNP Foundation Inc. (PNPFI) that will boost its law enforcement capabilities.

PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin and PNPFI chairman, former Senator and retired PNP chief Panfilo M. Lacson together with vice chairperson Teresita Ang See signed the deed of donation at PNP national headquarters building at Camp Crame, Quezon City.

The donation includes 113 sets desktop computers with USB mouse and keyboard, 67 units 3-in-1 printer, 23 projectors, 22 units of portable public address system with two wireless microphones each, 16 units of CCTV with four channels, and 60 mountain bikes.

“The Deed of Donation that we are formalizing today manifests the strong relationship between the PNP and PNP Foundation Inc. that sets an upright jumpstart towards stronger linkages and commitment with our trusted pillars in public service. This partnership will also help in streamlining the quality of our police services and strengthen law enforcement capabilities for efficient delivery of government services to the Filipino people,” Azurin said in a statement.

Azurin said through this development, more accomplishments will be jointly achieved, as the PNP builds a stronger connection with the community. This is also seen to strengthen the police force, as it transforms the organization into a much stronger and responsive police organization.

“Despite some stumbling blocks that our organization has been faced with, and the challenges that we have hurdled in the past, your Philippine National Police will swiftly embrace the shared vision and responsibility in realizing our organizational stability, reformation, and resiliency,” he said.

For his part, Lacson said there has been a long list of donations to numerous regular and special units of the PNP all over the archipelago.

“So far since its creation, the foundation, along with its generous donors, have donated various items to around 348 police stations and offices nationwide, amounting to an aggregate total of PHP193M, including PHP9.95M directly given in cash to the immediate families of the members of the Special Action Force (SAF) who were either killed or wounded in action in the Mamasapano encounter in Maguindanao,” Lacson said.

Lacson further said in his individual capacity especially as senator of the republic for 18 years, he always puts a premium on the welfare of the officers and men and women of the police organization in all his legislative work, be it in augmenting the annual budget of the PNP or in enacting laws that benefit the police force.

“I can proudly say without mental reservation and fear of contradiction, being your former chief, I have paid my dues to the men and women of this proud organization both active and retired,” he added.

Lacson also bared that the forthcoming annual general membership meeting next month, they are scheduled to discuss the latest request of the PNP national headquarters for the foundation to support your project to put up an open university in collaboration with the University of the Philippines that will allow PNP personnel to take up required and special training courses online without necessarily leaving their posts or places of assignment.

“This project is deemed to impact positively on the various confronting the service training of PNP personnel. Hence, we are being requested to donate the firewall component of the entire network system in the PNP UP open university joint endeavor. Barring any infringement on the foundation’s charter, the majority of the board of trustees have initially expressed full support to formally approve uch donation,” Lacson said..

“I will end my speech with an unsolicited advice to the newly installed chief of the PNP, Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. assuming that I know him well enough having worked with him during his formative years in the police service, this is going to be easy for him. Two words, competence and integrity,” he added. (PNA)
