A secondary school in the Municipality of Sibalom held a fun run to raise consciousness on the importance of school preparations as well as a small amount of fund as part of their Brigada Eskwela kick-off ceremony on Monday.

Resty Millondaga, Egaña National High School (ENHS) Brigada Eskwela coordinator, said in an interview Monday that around 160 participants registered for the fun run.

“There were students, alumni, police personnel, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) and Bureau of Fire Protection who joined in the fun run,” he said.

The event raised PHP4,000 from out of the minimal PHP20 registration fee for students and PHP50 for professionals.

In exchange, participants received a Certificate of Appreciation and snacks.

“Although we were not able to raise much because of our small registration fee, but then the fun run also raised the consciousness of other stakeholders to do their part in the preparation of the school for the coming opening,” he said.

The ENHS started to have face-to-face classes for Senior High School in February this year. This incoming school year, the face-to-face will already include Grades 7 to 10.

“The fund raised will be used for the repainting of the school signages and repair of the classroom window,” he said.

He said they will also need to repair the roof of one of the school classrooms, painting of the ceilings, and to buy facemasks for the learners.

The school has around 600 learners with 34 teachers.
He said it is a feeder school of the neighboring barangays like Insarayan, Tigbalua I and II, Catungan I and II , and Inabasan where secondary learners attend classes. (PNA)
