Sustainable Gastronomy Day was first celebrated on June 18, 2017. Created to spotlight seasonal ingredients and the need to preserve the environment, its significance is more relevant today than it’s ever been.

Sustainable Gastronomy accounts for where ingredients are from, how they’re made, how they get delivered to markets and ultimately – to our plates. Despite heightened awareness around sustainability in recent times, there is still much work to be done to preserve our natural resources by moving away from producing food at a level that comes at the cost of our planet.

According to estimates from the United Nations, around one third of all food produced globally ends up lost or wasted . To offset the strain making food puts on the environment, it’s not enough for only food producers to be mindful of how they use natural resources. As consumers, we too must become more selective in terms of how we choose, prepare, and consume our food.

There are many ways to add some sustainability into our eating habits. We can support local producers, eat seasonally, and avoid food waste by maximizing what we buy and incorporating any excess ingredients into other meals.

In line with helping more people live healthier and more sustainably, Philips Domestic Appliances, shares easy recipes that make the most of what’s in your kitchen. With the use of the Philips Essential Airfryer XL to help ensure healthy food that’s crispy on the outside yet tender on the inside – ensuring great tasting fries made with up to 90% less fat – here are three recipes you can whip up with just five ingredients or less.

Building on a longstanding commitment to sustainability, Philips Domestic Appliances works to help minimize the impact on the planet by designing products that offer maximum value with minimal environmental impact as well as teaming up with partners to create positive change. Working with EcoMatcher’s NGO partner in the Philippines, Fostering Education & Environment for Development (FEED), Philips Domestic Appliances has also planted a forest of a few thousand trees, to match every purchase from its Eco Conscious Edition range of products.
