Fil-Am singer Olivia Rodrigo was named Billboard’s Woman of the Year for 2022 on Friday, February 4. Her achievement will be recognized at the magazine’s annual Women in Music Awards on March 2 in Los Angeles.

The award marks the start of what is expected to be another historic year for the Grammy winner.

Rodrigo had a mega-successful career started in January 2021, she launched her track “drivers license,” which quickly broke Spotify’s record for most song streams in a single week. The ballad eventually became the most-streamed song of 2021 (with 1.1 billion streams), and her debut album, “SOUR,” was the most-streamed album in the world.

Rodrigo embarks on a 40-city globe tour in 2022 that sells out in minutes. She’s also shortlisted for seven Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year, to name a few.

In a statement, Billboard Editorial Director Hannah Karp remarked, “Olivia’s trajectory to superstardom is the stuff of pop music legend.”

“Her talents as a storyteller and songwriter have made Olivia one of the most authentic and exciting new artists to explode onto the scene in years. Connecting with audiences across generations through emotionally charged songs about heartbreak, jealousy and growing up, she’s achieved absolutely incredible chart success for a debut artist. We are thrilled to celebrate her unique voice and the enormous impact she’s had on fans around the globe in such a short time,” the director added.

Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, and Cardi B are among the previous Woman of the Year winners.
