The Pasay City government is mulling the construction of a “new and modernized” public hospital to provide high-quality and affordable” healthcare services to its constituents.

Mayor Emi Calixto Rubiano said in a television interview on Thursday the new hospital will address the increasing number of individuals with comorbidities.

“Since before the surge of Covid-19, we were already planning to build a new public hospital where city residents can use the health card provided by the city government,” Rubiano told ABS-CBN News Channel.

The city government also targets to augment the treatment capacity of the Pasay City General Hospital (PCGH), the lone public hospital in the city.

The city is still identifying an appropriate location for the new hospital.

“Our city is geographically small and we have a very dense population which is why we are having a hard time finding the right place and area to build our hospital,” Rubiano said.

“We care for the health and welfare of our people, and I can assure you that the construction of a new hospital will happen very soon,” she added.

As of Wednesday, Pasay’s active Covid-19 cases are down to 499 from as high as more than 2,000 daily in February. (PNA)
